From the Alaskan coastal town of Skagway, named the "City of the New Century' in 1898, we were driven by road into the Yukon Territory in Canada. Participants in the Klondike Gold Rush had to hike 45 miles over the mountains and then float down the Yukon River for another 555 miles to the goldfields.
